Where is the Male Submission Art?

September 28, 2008

Seriously? Where is it? I’m not just talking about porn (though that would be nice too), I’m talking about the art. As in good. As in quality. As in nuanced, and beautiful, and actually existing on this plane.

I finally figure out what the hell my sexuality is and no one’s drawing pretty pictures of it. If someone actually is drawing pictures of it, it’s usually a gag cartoon (unintentional pun!), has to be paid for, often involves grossly unattractive men being dominated by stereotypical embodiments of mainstream “feminine beauty” (blonde, busty, tall, heavy makeup, did I mention BLONDE?) sheathed in various fetish textiles such as rubber, PVC, or vinyl. These pitiful offerings are about 1/1000 of the BDSM art available, the rest of which is 998/1000 male domination/female submission, and another 1/1000 female domination/female submission.

Typical Femdom Gag Cartoon

At least she has an average body type.

Here is a typical example of a Google search: I type “male submission comic” (that way I get art AND story). First search result: Torture Brothel.

Female submission may do it for some people, but it doesn’t really do it for me, certainly not when it’s male domination. I like female domination and male submission. I like beating men up. That’s why I searched for “MALE SUBMISSION.”

Search results rapidly dwindle to forum threads on most memorable female vs male battles in comic books.

Another example. Google search: “femdom comics.” First search result: Femdomcomics. Seems promising. Open. Paltry teaser offerings of “rich-bitch” femdom archetype. All involve face-sitting, high heels, human ashtray, and forced feminization. I have a list of things I’m not into, and that’s a good summary.

Finding male submission/female domination erotica is just as frustrating. First of all, NO ONE CAN WRITE. Second of all, no one is creative. Thirdly, things such as “character development,” “realistic characterization,” “basic grammar,” and “decent dialogue” apparently do not exist. Yes, I could just write my own, and then it would be everything I want. Sometimes that’s satisfying, but if I come up with it, I already know everything that happens. There’s no discovery.

It just floors me that it’s so impossible to find any art vaguely related to male submission, much less anything of quality. On Fetlife, the Facebook of fetish and BDSM, I find it very telling that “femdom” and “female domination” are listed as fetishes, but male submission is not. All the focus is on the female fulfilling male pleasure, which is not a jot different from male domination or stereotypical mainstream sexuality. It runs counter to the entire concept of female domination.

Why are there no depictions of reasonably attractive men submitting to women with real bodies (as in, bodies with fat. Fat looks good on women. It’s what gives us tits and ass. Flat stomachs on women are disgusting)? There’s PLENTY of art of Barbie-type women submitting to men with poor hygiene and beer guts. Even in mainstream fantasy art there’s a whole genre of stereotypical virginal beauties being offered up to monsters in chains. Where’s the hot guy being offered up for sacrifice in rope bondage? I want that.

Why am I expected (by whoever it is that draws or writes these things) to be turned on by the domination of a weak-willed weakling with an unhealthy body type? What is there to dominate?

I’ve read lots of blogs by female dominants blaming the male-dominated market, which focuses on the fulfillment of male fantasies (which according to the examples I’ve found are all extremely boring). This seems terrifyingly accurate, but knowing the source of the problem doesn’t make it less frustrating.

Just to use a rather blatant example, where is the painting of the conquered barbarian, beaten bloody and tied up being forced onto a dildo before a woman in natural fiber clothes? Where is the comic with a defiant warrior being offered up on a platter to be the sex toy of half a dozen young women? I don’t want to read about cheating, no-good husbands who finally get their due and do all the vacuuming and get spanked three times a day. I don’t want to look at timid pretty boys with no personality sucking a strap on. I CERTAINLY have no desire to see nurses give enemas to adolescent boys. An ephebophile I am not.

So where is all the male submission art? I’m not even asking for a real person, just a picture. It’s the internet. When you can’t find what you’re looking for on the internet, you know something is terribly wrong.

Oh my god so yes. For what it’s worth, there is now a fetish listed on FetLife called “male submission” (I have it, so you can find it that way if you want to add it). Nevertheless, it’s certainly frustrating—for both dominant women and submissive men—that there is so little quality male submission art.

My talents don’t lie in the creative so much as the technical, so unfortunately I can’t really make such art. If I could, though, I would, even though there’d be no discovery. Because if I do it, then someone else will copy me, and then two more people will copy us, and even if most of the copy cats don’t actually understand how to use proper capitalization, at least I can tell them that, and try to help bring their work up to a standard of quality that I can respect, and at least that way my submissive great-great-great-great-grandson will not feel the same frustration from living in a society where male submission is invisible as I do every day.

    Okay. End rant.

Also, on a second train of thought, I just did a google search for “Male submission art” and came up with 4 hits! FOUR!

Further, malesubmissionart.com is an available domain name. I probably have way too many of these sorts of ideas, but that seems like a wonderful web site waiting to happen….

Yeah, I started the “male submission” fetish because I was angry that it didn’t exist. You and Hart have joined me. Yay!

My talents lie in fiction writing rather than visual media, and my kink does tend to get worked in. I was thinking last night about whether or not I wanted to write erotica, or just include juicy kink details in stories that have other equally important things going on. Maybe I’ll do BOTH.

Hmm… malesubmissionart.com. The prospect is tantalizing.

Oh, and I looked up your search. Wow, one of the results is mine, two are Jones’s, and one is… in Japanese?

I started a project a while ago that was primarily about exploring hypertextuality in erotic fiction, but it has since languished. If you’re interested in joining the project and perhaps breathing some new life into it, I’d strongly encourage you to check out my original call for participation.

I did look at the hypertextuality project, and considered joining, but I was confused into hesitation. It was the “hyper” part? Does it have to be hyper? Can it just be textual? (Doesn’t actually know what she’s talking about). But I am still intrigued. Hopefully my intriguedness will outweigh by confusedness.

Context is everything in web searches.
It may not be “male submission art.”
It may be bondage in everyday life. It may be the sort of heroic sacrifice you describe elsewhere. It may even be right in front of you…

@Jon: This is true about heroic sacrifice pictures, but sometimes hands tied behind the back and a bloody lip are just not enough to assuage me. But one must be wily in finding one’s porn.

Speaking of art — the comment section shows abstract geometric avatars.

Is it possible to change this to a more appropriate image? Would i need a website or may i simply offer one?

I have not the slightest idea. I did some fiddling with the comment settings, and it let me choose from a couple of different sets of avatars, of which the abstract squares are the most appealing. I might fiddle with it some more, or I might not. Certainly there are worse alternatives.

Have some nice male submission art to forward, if you have an address

What is your nick at at Fetlife? You can find me there…jon83.

The comment squares are called Gravatars. Ranat, you need to set your “discussion” settings to allow gravatar images that X-rated (or whatever rating you’d like). For commenter images to appear, they need to sign up and provide a picture at http://Gravatar.com

As for Male Submission Art, please take a look at MaleSubmissionArt.com as well as my Playground page on the topic. I’d love to start getting contributions to blog. Do you have any good stashes of male submission erotic imagery? I want more, too!

    Cheers!

Oh, look. Now there are pictures.

Sweet male submission art action. My stash of male submission erotic imagery is painfully limited, and mostly in my head. However I did run across a whole mess of photo of a man in nipple clamps on Flickr the other day. *rummages*

    Aha!

“Where is the Male Submission Art? | beyond the hills” ended
up being a great post. In case it possessed a lot more images it would likely be possibly even better.

When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added”
checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get three e-mails
with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service?
    Many thanks!

‘ you may laugh at the infomercials, but Sham – Wow is actually a good paper towel substitute. Mexican oven fried chicken – add a teaspoon of chili powder (combine it with cayenne for an extra kick. “Last night the weather was really bad, so instead of going out to Chili’s,
we cooked the Monterey Chicken recipe from your ebook and
we couldn’t even tell the difference.
