You shouldn't tell me you won't always be in Australia because then I will think of how much EASIER it will be to kidnap you when you're not in Australia.

As for your insight into the fantasy genre, yeah, I agree. I think there's also the rationalization that "Oh, none of this is real anyway, so who cares if they have a femdom society? It's only *fiction.*" I think people have problems imagining matriarchies or male service due to the encroachment of Western-flavor patriarchy to just about every corner of the world. So people have to step into another world in order for dominant women and submissive men to be believable.

Carol Berg doesn't write male submission this explicitly, her male characters just have savior-syndrome, which according to the dominant culture is okay, because tortured men single-handedly saving the world is an acceptable trope (ala Jesus).

I am totally going to have to Google "Carol Berg" now and at the very least check out the plot lines of some of her fantasy books.

I think the Fantasy genre is the only one where there is any hotness of this kind because in order to feel safe thinking about the mainstream needs to create another world. The fact that it happens in this world, in a tragic way, more often than they'd like to admit is not what readers want to buy when they want to buy fantasy of this kind; they'd prefer to change the channel.

In any event, thanks for the link back. For the record, I won't always be in Australia…. :)
